No other state approached regarding the issue of the language in JEE Main Exam: NTA

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had raised concerns regarding the issue of conducting the JEE Main exam only in the Gujarati language apart from Hindi and English. However, NTA clarified that no other state has approached them regarding the matter.NTA also clarified that the exam is being held in the Gujarati language since 2013 and this was done on the request from the state Government."None of the other states have approached NTA to provide the JEE Main question paper in any other Indian national language," reads the notice released by the NTA. JEE main exam was envisaged in 2013 and states were asked to admit the students in their technical institutions based on the performance in the exam. While Gujarat agreed to the exam, Maharashtra adopted the exam next year. Maharashtra state asked to translate the exam in Marathi and Urdu which was implemented only in 2016. NTA also told that both states withdraw their consent for considering the scores of the JEE Mains exam as the sole criteria for the admission of the engineering aspirants. However, the Gujarat government requested to continue with the translation of the paper in the Gujarati language."Therefore, the translation in Marathi and Urdu language was stopped. However, the translation of the JEE (Main) question paper in the Gujarati language continued on the request of Gujarat State," the official notice also reads.
