Current assessment system in schools has 'Harmful Effects': MHRD



Noting the fact that the current assessment system has harmful effects, the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will prepare guidelines for the new assessment policy by 2022, said HRD Ministry.The HRD Ministry, which is in the process of giving final shape to the new National Education Policy (NEP) has proposed to eliminate high stakes aspect of the board exams and students must be allowed to take board exams on up to two occasions during any given school year and exams must be made easier."To reverse the harmful effects of the current assessment system, board exams will encourage holistic development, students will be able to choose any of the subjects in which they take board exams, depending on their individualized interests," the draft proposes.The new policy has also recommended the formation of a new regulatory body for all recognized school boards of India. The new regulatory body will ensure that the assessment patters of the different boards meet the skill requirement of the 21st century.
