Mumbai University to waive-off the fee of the students affected by unseasonal rainfall



On Tuesday, Mumbai University has decided to waive off the fee (tuition and examination) of the students who have been hit by the recent unseasonal rainfall in the state. The university has also agreed to conduct the exams for three students who were arrested in October for protesting against the felling of trees. The University will also write to the governor seeking the withdrawal of the case against the students.The decisions were taken in the MU senate meeting. “We want to tell the students affected by the flood that we are with them. We appeal to them to not give up on education because of financial difficulties. Mumbai University will waive fees for the affected students. We will upload details on the website in a few days,” said MU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suhas Pednekar.Officials also told that the university’s NSS unit has provided relief material worth INR 25 lakhs in the flood-affected areas.The senate members also demanded that the university should pay the lawyers fee of 938 non-teaching temporary employees who moved to SC seeking a raise in their wages. The employees have claimed that they have been working at MU for several years and must be regularized.
