B.Ed. Colleges in unchecked numbers are the reason for lack of Quality of Education

The government undertook the charge of drafting the New Education Policy from the scratch because the old policy has some major flaws and it was outdated when seen from the lens of today’s highly globalized and open environment. However; an important point to remember is that the quality of education comes from the teacher and not from the policy. A policy merely provides the frame of reference but it is the teacher which stands in front of the students and teach them. But what about the education of a teacher. B.Ed. Colleges in the country can be found in every corner like a general store and these colleges are known for not providing quality education to the future teachers. Students can hardly be seen going to colleges and attending classes. The only time students can be seen in large quantity is during the exam time and most of them pass the exam by studying during the last moment from cheap passbooks. No matter how many times the government frames the new education policy until and unless we can produce quality and highly educated teachers the teaching level in the nation will remain mediocre. According to the report presented by the Kastoori Rangan committee, there are 17000 B.Ed. Colleges in the nation of which 92 percent falls under the private ownership which functions purely on the principle of capitalism Most of them even lack the basic minimum requirements of a B.Ed. College. The report also presented the fact that the teachers in schools and colleges are given tasks which aren’t even remotely related to the academics and waste the time of the teachers which they can utilize to educate the children.
